Manchester Metropolitan University Faculty of Science & Engineering
Our northern contracting team worked closely with architects BDP to formulate the original design of the space and later collaborated with 5plus Architects on the project through to its completion.
Our high-performing PURE100 double glazed partitions (Rw 47 dB) were used throughout the space with IsoPro doors (Rw 36 dB) to offer exceptional acoustic attentuation in an environment that combines working laboratories with teaching areas. Extended height PURE20 XL privacy screens helped divide study areas.
IsoPro doors were also utilised for access to some of MMU’s solo study pods, while Radii’s innovative bi-folding glazed doors (Rw 35 dB) were installed for larger 2-4 person booths.
x&why Manchester
Flexible workspace providers x+why’s new 33,000 sq ft location at 100 Embankment aims to provide “an impressive space from which to grow and thrive” for start-ups and established businesses across Manchester.
We joined John Robertson Architects and ADT Workplace in May 2023. Working across Ground, Mezz and 1st and 2nd Floors of the space, Radii’s popular single glazed Linear 25 (Rw 39 dB) and Linear 30 (Rw 41 dB) partitions and Hogan single and double pivoting doors (Rw 35 & 38 dB) were used for glazed fronts for a variety of different size meeting spaces and offices. Many of these were installed with our popular ‘Rio’ banding.
Ei30 single glazed fire rated screens, complete with timber door frame junctions, provide exit route protection.
The finished space also benefits from some of the 11 Ei60 FireTec double door sets installed across all eight levels of the building during the original base build Cat A fit out in 2020.
This project won Workplace Fit Out of the Year 2024 award at British Council for Offices Midlands Awards.
100 Barbirolli Square
The refit of the building at 100 Barbirolli Square sits alongside the previously renovated building at 101 Barbirolli Square. The finished development would offer 10 floors of collaborative workspace, with proximity to several key transport links, restaurants and other amenities all combining to deliver a highly attractive prospect to potential tenants.
We used our minimalist PURE20 system for the ten-storey atrium glazing. The narrow frame and profile of the PURE20 gives a near-seamless glass frontage to the circumference of the atrium, providing excellent visual aesthetics while allowing maximum natural light to penetrate each floor of the building.
With each floor of 100 Barbirolli square measuring 3.25 metres from floor to ceiling, the glazing for the atrium needed to be processed at a larger scale than the standard PURE20. Using our own dedicated factory production team we produced an ‘XL’ variant of the PURE20, with each element made to 3.5 metres to provide a perfect fit.
Natwest Spinningfields
Commercial bank NatWest’s new flagship office in Manchester’s eye-catching Spinningfields development was designed by Michael Laird Architects with sustainability and inclusivity at its core.
Our northern contracting team supplied and installed thirty glazed fronts and accompanying door sets across the internal space. Double glazed PURE100 partitions (up to Rw 54 dB) were utilised alongside 54mm IsoPro rebated glazed pivoting doors, including some with access control on Level 2 of the building.
Exit route protection was also provided in key locations using FireTec Ei30 fire rated doors and screens.
Completed in September 2023, this was the latest in a number of successful projects that Planet has contributed towards for NatWest across the UK.
