We are looking for a Design Technician to join a very experienced team, working on a range of glazing projects in the commercial building sector. Support and training would be provided to enable the successful candidate to grow and develop in the role.

 

PURPOSE

  • To use specialist computer software to produce plans and technical drawings for a range of products and components.
  • To create accurate 2D drawings of sections, plans and details.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create 2D designs to draw a flat representation of the product/component build-up along with elevational drawings.
  • Maintain CAD blocks and standard details.
  • Manage timescales against project programmes to achieve deadlines.
  • Use standard designs to help prepare assembly instructions and maintenance manuals for installation.
  • Liaise with internal departments to ensure client requirements are fully understood.
  • Ensure buildability, safety, cost, and access are considered when producing designs.
  • Ensure all plans and drawings are in line with the specification, acoustic and fire requirements.
  • Ensure client drawing protocol is complied with and upload documents to project portals.
  • Complete drawing registers, door and screen schedules, and update deliverables throughout the project.
  • Create and issue technical submissions.
  • Ensure knowledge and awareness of your roles and responsibilities under the Company’s integrated management systems in relation to Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental.  
  • Ensure knowledge and understanding of the Company’s policies and procedures in relation to data protection legislation.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Excellent knowledge of design software including AutoCad.
  • Previous experience of working in a design role, ideally within the commercial or glazed partitioning environment.
  • Previous experience of working with architects plans and drawings as well as manufacturing details and requisitions.
  • Understanding of setting out from datums and gridlines.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to come up with practical solutions.
  • Ability to convert verbal and written information into 2D and 3D drawings with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Efficient and well organised.
  • Positive and pro-active attitude with the ability to use initiative.
  • Experience of Revit (BIM) and Solidworks would be advantageous.
  • Evidence of right to work in the UK.

WORKING HOURS & ENVIRONMENT

  • 37 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 1-hour lunch break each day.
  • Office Based - Head Office, Burgess Hill

  • Annual leave of 20 days (plus eight UK public holidays), increasing to 21 days following successful completion of probationary period, and increasing to 26 days after 5 years’ employment.
