Overview
We are looking for a Design Technician to join a highly experienced team, working on a range of glazing projects within the commercial building sector. Full support and training will be provided to enable the successful candidate to develop and progress within the role.
Purpose
  • Use specialist computer software to produce plans and technical drawings for a range of products and components.
  • Create accurate 2D drawings including sections, plans and details.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create 2D designs representing product and component build-ups, including elevational drawings.
  • Maintain CAD blocks and standard details.
  • Use standard designs to prepare assembly instructions and maintenance manuals.
  • Work independently under the guidance of the Design Manager, managing timescales against project programmes.
  • Ensure buildability, safety, cost and access are considered within all designs.
  • Liaise with internal departments to ensure full understanding and compliance with client requirements.
  • Ensure all drawings meet specification, acoustic and fire requirements.
  • Comply with client drawing protocols and upload documentation to project portals.
  • Complete drawing registers, door and screen schedules and project deliverables.
  • Ensure all drawings are thoroughly checked by the Senior Design Team prior to submission.
  • Coordinate interface detailing with other fit-out trades.
  • Create and issue technical submissions.
  • Follow design processes and maintain accurate project files.
  • Maintain awareness of responsibilities under the Company’s integrated management systems relating to Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures, including data protection legislation.
Person Specification
  • Excellent knowledge of design software, including AutoCAD.
  • Experience in a design role within a commercial or glazed partitioning environment is desirable.
  • Experience working with architects’ drawings, manufacturing details and requisitions.
  • Understanding of setting out from datums and gridlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical approach.
  • Ability to convert verbal and written information into accurate 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Efficient, well organised and detail focused.
  • Positive, self-motivated and able to work without close supervision.
  • A passion for design and interest in the progression of the division.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development.
Qualifications
  • Advanced IT skills.
  • Qualifications in AutoCAD.
  • Revit (BIM) experience is desirable.
  • SolidWorks experience is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence is desirable.
Working Hours
37 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.30pm, and Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm, with a one-hour lunch break each day.
