Role Overview

Radii Architectural Glass are specialists in designing and installing complex structural and architectural glazed solutions such as atriums, lift lobbies, glass stairs, balustrades, external curtain wall, structural glass façades and fire rated doors and glazing.

We are looking for a Design Technician to join our highly experienced team of Design Managers and Senior Design Managers, working on a wide range of specialist architectural glazing projects in the commercial building sector.

In this role, you will work closely with our Estimating and Bid Management Team, supporting the development of pre-construction drawings into buildable details that form part of the tendering process. Full support and training will be provided to enable the successful candidate to grow and develop in the role.

Purpose

Develop pre-construction drawings into buildable details for use during the tender stage.
Produce detailed fabrication drawings for pricing purposes, liaising with suppliers and addressing associated technical queries.
Utilise specialist computer software, including AutoCAD, to produce technical drawings for fabrication, modelling a range of products and components.

Key Responsibilities

Use specialist computer software (AutoCAD and Revit) to produce 2D and 3D technical drawings for fabrication, modelling a range of products and components.
Work independently, whilst under the guidance of the Head of Design, and manage timescales against tender return dates to achieve deadlines targeted.
Ensure buildability, safety, cost and access requirements are considered when producing designs.
Liaise with internal departments to ensure client requirements are fully understood and compliant.
Ensure all drawings are in line with the specification, acoustic and fire requirements.
Create material screen schedules and take offs throughout the tender.
Ensure all drawings are thoroughly checked by the Senior Design Department team prior to submission.
Attend design coordination meetings where required.
Liaise with internal PSE and suppliers and produce fabrication drawings.
Prepare and issue technical submissions.
Follow all design processes and update project files.
Ensure knowledge and awareness of your roles and responsibilities under the Company’s integrated management systems in relation to Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental.
Ensure knowledge and understanding of the Company’s policies and procedures in relation to data protection legislation.

Person Specification

Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a design role within a commercial architectural or glazed partitioning environment.
Excellent knowledge of design software including AutoCAD and Revit (BIM).
Previous experience of working with architects plans and drawings as well as manufacturing details and requisitions.
Understanding of setting out from datums and gridlines.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to come up with practical solutions.
Ability to convert verbal and written information into 2D and 3D drawings with accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong communications skills.
Efficient and well organised.
Positive attitude.
Self-motivated, able to use initiative and ability to work with limited supervision.
Commitment to personal development and continuous learning.
A passion for design and a keen interest in the business and progression of the division.

Qualifications

Advanced IT skills.
Proficient in AutoCAD.
Excel and Microsoft software experience.
Revit (BIM) experience (advantageous but not essential).
Full UK driving licence.
