As part of ongoing improvements to Birmingham City University, Associated Architects, together with Willmott Dixon, asked Planet Partitioning to put together a specification for internal partitioning in the new purpose-built Curzon Building on the BCU campus.
Work included creating frontages for lecture rooms, meeting rooms and offices for this six-storey building, in line with fire regulations. This came after completing the Parkside Building and refurbishing the adjacent building in the past.
With significant partitioning required on multiple floors, Planet Partitioning prefabricated a supportive steel framework offsite, to support the solid bulkheads above. In addition, a steel skirting detail was designed for the fire-rated screens, to ensure a great visual finish and to meet the fire requirements for the building.
The new Curzon building houses the Business, English, Law and Social Sciences departments, and provides students with a support hub, new library and teaching and IT space.
