PROJECT. OBJECTIVES

Formica, who specialise in the design, manufacture and distribution of surfacing solutions, made the decision to move their European Headquarters back to their original warehouse in North Shields, to encourage UK production after the referendum.

The iconic warehouse was first built in 1945 and needed a complete CAT A and B fit-out over 3 years, to house both the head office team and new machinery the company planned to invest in.

SOLUTION.

Planet’s Northern Division were perfectly placed to provide the partitioning screens and glass doors, for both the offices and warehouse. For the upstairs meeting rooms, acoustic was the priority; both PURE54 and LOFT54 were recommended to Main Contractor, Sanderson, for the systems’ impressive acoustic attenuation of up to 46dB Rw. Combined with IsoClear glazed doors, that achieve up to 34dB Rw, the system provided the privacy needed.

For the corridors and warehouse, FireTec was used to deliver the desired 30/30 fire rating. The FireTec doors had aluminium transoms applied to create the LOFT effect and compliment the LOFT54 that had been used upstairs.

Working in a building that was constructed in 1945 was always going to throw up some challenges. Planet’s team had to overcome numerous fixing issues, as a vast number of screens were installed within existing brickwork openings – the expertise of our experienced operatives ensured a seamless finish was delivered.
