PROJECT. OBJECTIVES

Client Liberty Syndicates

Following completion of the striking new ‘Walkie Talkie’ skyscraper in London, insurance brokers Liberty Syndicates took residence on six floors of the building with a view to providing staff with a modern, dynamic work environment in one of the capital’s most eye- catching developments.

To achieve this, the final workspace — designed by architects Perkins + Will — would contain several flexible meeting rooms that would combine glazed partitioning systems with vibrant coloured glass elements.

In addition, a fire rated solution would also be required to give the exit route down through the central stairwell adequate protection in case of an emergency.

Our
solution.

The Radii team’s extensive technical knowledge, expertise in creating bespoke solutions and experience working with specialist contractors meant we were an ideal partner for this project.

Single glazed partitioning fronts from our 2D Linear 25mm system (38dB RW) were fitted to many meeting pods, while our 2D Parallel 50mm system (45dB RW) was used on others where double glazing was necessary for further noise reduction. Similarly, the doors came from two of Radii’s systems and were selected depending on acoustic requirements for each space: Hogan pivoting doors (38dB RW); and our flush bonded Align double glazed pivoting doors (42dB RW).

The angled meeting pods were then accentuated through bespoke angled interlayered Vanceva glass, shaded blue and installed with minimal head and base tracks to make it appear as if the glass emerges from the floor and disappears into the ceiling.

Lastly, RPG Fire certified fire rated glazing solutions was utilised throughout the six-storey central staircase.
